transformation stories

we asked: “what helps you stay sober?”

  • This is Tyler, founding leader of giveRECOVERY, sober for over four years. "What has helped me stay sober this time is Jesus - the daily maintenance of my spiritual condition has been crucial along with readings, going to church, hanging out with like minded people, praying, and maintaining conscious contact with God throughout the day. Two other keys to my success have been surrounding myself with people with similar goals and helping other alcoholics and addicts."

  • Ryan, giveRECOVERY leader, sober for over twelve months. "What has helped me maintain sobriety is remembering what got me to rock bottom. One year ago I was in a hospital in Detroit after a suicide attempt praying to God to put something in front of me that would change my path. I started slow - learned to brush my teeth again, make my bed - basic things to retrain my mind and body to learn how to function again. Now I have a sponsor, work the steps, go to meetings, and got a job. Today, I try to fill my head with gratitude in the morning and at night - I choose to focus on good, positive things like my daughter and friends."

  • Brian, co-founder of giveRECOVERY , sober for over three years. "What has helped me maintain sobriety is my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ guiding me and also the consistent working of the twelve steps via alcoholics anonymous. The other two key elements are my sponsor and my community of like minded sober friends helping me stay accountable."
